David has more than thirty-six (36) years of experience in civil and water resource engineering for state, municipal, industrial, agricultural, and private sector clients. He is a licensed registered Professional Engineer in the States of Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Engineering Physics. His areas of expertise include: civil (water, sanitary and storm sewer) modeling and design, drainage report preparation, grading design, hydraulics, hydrology, flood control (channel design), wetland mitigation design, in-stream water quality and habitat improvements, irrigation design including headgates, siphons, flumes and flow splitters, sediment control, recreation engineering including boat chute and trail design, environmental design, road design, subsurface drainage, cost estimating and construction management. He has been the responsible engineer for the design of hundreds of millions of dollars of infrastructure construction over the past 35 years. He has been certified in Federal Court as an expert witness in the areas of flood control design, civil engineering, master planning, cost estimating and construction management techniques. David incorporates the use of Best Management Practices (BMPs) in all of his projects. Over the past 35 years he has designed tens of miles of trails along river corridors, fish habitat/fish ladders, multiple constructed detention/retention/ irrigation/wetland ponds, irrigation facilities including diversion structures, ditch improvements, measuring flumes, and cleanouts, major flood control channel improvements and channel maintenance projects. David has taught a course in Construction Inspection Techniques to City of Boulder Public Works right-of-way inspectors/staff. Due to his unique approach in forging functional engineering solutions with environmental and aesthetic concerns, David has been and continues to be a featured speaker at several national professional conferences over the years. David Love was the chief hydraulic engineer and a trail designer for a significant portion of the City of Boulder’s infamous Boulder Creek and tributaries’ trail system which is internationally known.
